The Open Group has recently released ArchiMate 2.0 which is the latest version of their independent modelling language for Enterprise Architecture. Its aim is to enhance and improve IT and business alignment.
ArchiMate 2.0 has been developed by the The Open Group’s, ArchiMate Forum, and is now more specifically aligned with TOGAF, its neutral Enterprise Architecture framework.
This latest technical standard hopes to improve general, efficient collaboration through increased understanding and to assist in the spanning of multiple functions. It also aims to successfully allow the creation of fully integrated models of any organisations’ Enterprise Architecture.
ArchiMate 2.0 is intended to deliver greatly improved business and IT ‘partnership’ alignment using Enterprise Architecture modelling specifically linked to the TOGAF ADM.
It will also provide an extension to those seeking to drive for change, for model stakeholders and those wishing to further develop business goals and principles and other general, business requirements.
In addition, it also offers consistency and useful examples, as well as extra clarification updates from the previous version. It also provides implementation and migration extensions to further support, gap analysis, project portfolio management plus transition and migration planning.
ArchiMate 2.0 is considered to provide enterprise architects with the required concepts and tools that are necessary to successfully build a consistent, integrated model that ‘marries’ a great more intimately with TOGAF.
Its creators certainly believe that this new standard will increase interoperability and help enterprise architects to establish a common language across their enterprise.
